The U.S. Department of Homeland Security has issued a Request for Information (RFI) in support of the Radiation Awareness and Interdiction Network (RAIN) performance test units.
The goal of this RFI is to seek information on facilities that can support the government evaluation of technologies being developed under the RAIN Advanced Technology Demonstration (ATD) program.
This ATD is intended to demonstrate a new capability for high-confidence, high-sensitivity detection, identification and localization of conveyance-borne radiological or nuclear threats in free-flowing highway traffic and on-ramps to those highways.
The technical approaches being pursued include the integration of radiation detectors on gantry mounted automated tolling systems and/or arrayed radiation detectors with machine vision-based tracking capabilities.
Further details are available via Solicitation Number: DNDO_TARD_RFI_2015. The response deadline is Mar 24, 2015.
