The 3rd Virtual Meeting of the Alumni Association of the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) Associate Programme was convened Nov. 18-25, 2015.
The OPCW Associate Programme aims to foster a better understanding of the objectives of the Chemical Weapons Convention and to promote the peaceful uses of chemistry, with an emphasis on chemical safety.
The programme is designed for chemists and chemical engineers, especially from Member States whose economies are either developing or in transition. It has been designed to give them access to the skills and experience required to operate effectively in the context of the modern chemical industry.
The Alumni meeting engaged 50 participants in dynamic discussions on how to continue ensuring the utmost relevance of the curriculum of the Associate Programme and further enhance the Programme’s impact, as well as on how to further strengthen the Alumni network.
The meeting generated 12 recommendations including concrete proposals for innovative topics to be included in the Associate Programme’s curriculum, and further commitment to education and outreach activities undertaken by the Alumni to promote the objectives of the Chemical Weapons Convention.
