The Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA), through the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT), is soliciting competitive applications from eligible nonprofit organizations for Hazardous Materials Instructor Training (HMIT) grant funds.

Properly planned and maintained training programs are essential for hazmat employees to ensure they are equipped to ensure their safety and the safety of others.  Effective training of employees can reduce risk and the likelihood of hazmat incidents and accidents and is key to ensuring that hazardous materials are transported safely.

For award consideration, nonprofit organizations must demonstrate expertise in conducting training programs for hazmat employees, and the ability to reach and involve hazmat employees.
