The U.S. Army Edgewood Chemical Biological Center (ECBC) Chemical Biological and Risk Reduction (CBARR) Business Unit has announced intentions to award a sole source contract to Meso Scale Diagnostics, LLC. For biothreat agent testing kits.
The acquisition supports the Environmental Biomonitoring Laboratory’s (EBML) biosurveillance and security laboratory capabilities both at ECBC and for select federal mobile biological monitoring requirements.
“As much as possible, the laboratory attempts to maintain redundant testing capability, Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) and ElectroChemiLuminescence (ECL) such that more than one technology or platform is used for the detection of a potential biological agent,” states the announcement. ECL detection has, since the inception of the program, been integral to the success of the mission of both EBML and ECBC.”
Under the contract, Meso Scale Diagnostics will provide assay kits used for the environmental detection of the high priority pathogens, to include: Bacillus anthracis, Yersinia pestis, Francisella tularensis, Vaccinia virus, Staphylococcal enterotoxin B (SEB), Coxiella burnetii, Brucella, Ebola virus, Ricin, Abrin, and Botulinum toxin A/B.
