The U.S. Army Contracting Command – Aberdeen Proving Ground, Belvoir Division has recently announced intentions to award several notable contracts for handheld explosive detection systems.
The contracts are intended to further development of technological approaches for the next generation of systems to detect explosive hazards, including landmines, deeply buried metallic and non-metallic improvised explosive device (IED) main charges; and triggering mechanisms such as non-metallic conductive components and wires.
The following companies are specified to receive contracts:
- L-3 Communications Security and Detection Systems
- NIITEK, Inc.
- Cobham Technical Services
The proposed actions will leverage the research and development previously performed for the government under a Broad Agency Announcement, in order to continue the assessment and development of a highly specialized handheld technology demonstrator system.
The estimated period of performance is thirty-six months divided equally into Phase I and Phase II efforts.
The awards were made on behalf of the U.S. Army Research, Development and Engineering Command, Communications-Electronic Research Development and Engineering Command, Night Vision Electronic Sensor Directorate (NVESD).
