Responding to Severe Accidents in Nuclear Power Plants

The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), Acquisition Management Division (AMD) is soliciting proposals for Research and Technical Assistance Related to Severe Accidents in Nuclear Power Plants.

The purpose of this acquisition is to acquire support in conducting research in severe accident phenomena, in particular, those phenomena where residual uncertainties remain in light of Fukushima.

Highlighted task areas include:

  • Technical Support for Addressing Emerging Severe Accident Issues
  • Stratified Steam Explosions
  • Reactor Core Injection Cooling (RCIC) Performance Modeling
  • Debris Bed Formation and Coolability

The selected contractor will provide additionally develop and maintain a repository of knowledge in severe accident research.
