DTRA Acquires M908 Handheld Mass Spec Systems

The Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) has announced intentions to issue a sole source, firm-fixed price contract to Federal Resources Supply Company, of Stevensville, for the following:

Six each 908 Devices M908, handheld MS chemical identification system for gas/vapor, solids and liquids. The contract includes a 5-year warranty and support.

908 Devices’ high-pressure approach to mass spectrometry is the first of its kind, enabling technology considered the “gold standard” of the laboratory to be deployed in a rugged handheld form factor. Unlike other analytical techniques, mass spectrometry measures the mass of charged molecules providing extraordinary sensitivity and selectivity. This allows for rapid detection and identification of chemical threats even in the presence of background interferents.
