The Department of Energy-Idaho Operations Office has announced intentions to issue a Request for Proposals (RFP) for the development of a generic design of a pilot Interim Storage Facility for spent nuclear fuel.
Also required is an associated Topical Safety Analysis Report (TSAR) suitable for submittal to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission for review, approval, and issuance of a Safety Evaluation Report.
The selected contractor will provide:
- A fully developed and documented generic design for a pilot Interim Storage Facility for the receipt and storage of spent nuclear fuel and Greater-Than-Class C Low-Level Radioactive Waste (GTCC LLRW) currently in dry storage canisters at shutdown reactor sites
- A prepared TSAR based on the generic design developed
- Technical support during the NRC review including the development of draft responses to resolve any requests for additional information
An RFP is anticipated to be released and posted to FedBizOpps on or about February 25, 2016 with an anticipated RFP closing response date of April 7, 2016. A firm fixed price base contract, with three time-and-material one-year options, is anticipated.
