Patrick Air Force Base contracting is conducting market research for a requirement to provide a nuclear reactor capable of irradiating highly enriched uranium (HEU) foils with thermal neutrons and a facility with skilled personnel to delivery irradiated foils to Air Force Technical Applications Center (AFTAC).
AFTAC’s mission is to monitor nuclear treaties of all applicable signatory countries. The organization has a surveillance network of approximately 3,600 underwater, underground, airborne and space-based nuclear-detonation sensors across the globe.
AFTAC’s Ciambrone Radiochemistry Laboratory (CRL) requires irradiated highly enriched uranium foils for use as calibration sources necessary to establish laboratory baseline values.
