Senegal Chemical Transport Security Workshop
March 4 - March 7
The U.S. Department of State’s Office of Weapons of Mass Destruction Terrorism (WMDT) works worldwide to counter the threat of terrorists or other non-state actors from acquiring and using chemical, biological, and other WMD materials and knowledge, and the Government of Senegal is a critical partner in these efforts.
Building on this partnership, WMDT will host up to 20 Senegalese law enforcement and chemical security experts to participate in a bilateral engagement on identifying and securing chemicals of concern transported through the country. This four-day training course is scheduled to be held in-person in Dakar from March 4-7, 2024.
Facilitated by experts from Sandia National Laboratories, this training will address best practices and tools for identifying chemicals of security concern and assessing likely routes used for bulk chemical transport in order to secure those chemicals against potential threats from terrorists and other non-state actors throughout the risk evaluation process.
WMDT welcomes your nomination of up to 20 mid-level law enforcement officials and chemical security experts with responsibility or authority to plan for, or provide security to, hazmat transportation, including chemicals of security concern that are transported via highway routes throughout Senegal. Participants should serve in roles involving security and threat assessments of chemical transportation or providing tactical security to hazardous chemical transports via overland routes. In addition to participants with these specific responsibilities, experience, and expertise, WMDT also seeks to achieve a gender balance among participants and encourages the Government of Senegal to nominate both male and female candidates to participate.
WMDT will announce additional logistics and venue information in Dakar once the participant list is finalized. Please visit Sandia’s Global Chemical and Biological Security Events page for more information.
