Drell Lecture 2022: The President’s Nuclear Button

May 5 @ 4:30 pm - 6:00 pm PDT

Hybrid Hybrid Event

Stanford University’s Center for International Security and Cooperation (CISAC) will host a lecture event featuring Congressman Ted W. Lieu on 5 May 2022 to discuss presidential nuclear strike authority and the role of congressional oversight; Cold-era nuclear use policy; and nuclear security challenges of the modern era.

The event is open to the public through a virtual option. Those with an active Stanford ID may attend in person at Encina Hall.

Congressman Ted W. Lieu represents California’s 33rd Congressional District. In his fourth term in Congress, he sits on the House Judiciary and Foreign Affairs committees. A former active-duty officer in the U.S. Air Force, Congressman Lieu established himself as a leader on the environment; cybersecurity; civil liberties; government ethics and veterans. Four times, he has introduced legislation to prevent the president from launching a nuclear first strike without congressional approval.

Please visit CISAC’s Drell Lecture 2022: The President’s Nuclear Button event listing to register.
