Measuring and Managing Freight System Resilience Workshop

Convened by Transportation Research Board and sponsored by the Federal Highway Administration, the Measuring and Managing Freight System Resilience Workshop on April 6 -8, 2021 will bring together a community to address challenges and strategies of assuring freight system resilience in the face of disruptions caused by major natural hazards.

Using four case studies of major transportation disruptions, this workshop will explore the effect of disruptions on freight transportation, examining actions used for rapid restoration of service and remediation of infrastructure damage. Each case will be presented by leaders who were closely engaged in response, restoration, and resilience building. Following each case presentation, expert panels will respond, identifying and discussing ways to assure future freight transportation resilience, including infrastructure investment and redesign, and enhanced operational strategies, interagency collaboration, improved data and analysis tools, and communications.

Participants will be invited to engage in discussion throughout the workshop, sharing their own experiences with freight disruptions and contributing ideas for future actions and research.
