Biography

The U.S. Army Public Health Command (USAPHC) conducts applied research for enhancement of the safety and defense of food and water; improved disease and injury surveillance and control; and minimized risk from occupational and environmental health hazards.

Headquartered at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Md., USAPHC has six subordinate elements, the Army Institute of Public Health (APIH) and five Public Health Command Regions.

AIPH, also located at Aberdeen Proving Ground, standardizes and promulgates practices and procedures used throughout the USAPHC, administers and funds public health mission execution, provides one-of-a-kind and reach-back technical capabilities, and oversees quality assurance.

The five Public Health Command Regions execute public health missions. They are supported by 14 Public Health Command Districts that will bring public health services even closer to the Army installations and deployed units who are their customers. USAPHC personnel are assigned in 14 time zones and in approximately 400 locations around the globe.

Their professions include almost 70 scientific and technical disciplines, including: epidemiologists, food safety experts, public health and occupational health physicians and nurses, industrial hygienists, veterinary clinical specialists, animal technicians, entomologists, chemists, toxicologists, engineers, environmental scientists, biologists, nuclear medicine experts, and more.

USAPHC is a subordinate command of the U.S. Army Medical Command. Through its unique mission and capabilities, USAPHC is helping Army Medicine transform to a prevention-focused system for health.

USAPHC integrates missions from the former U.S. Army Center for Health Promotion and Preventive Medicine (CHPPM) and U.S. Army Veterinary Command (VETCOM) to form a core public health command for the Army.
